Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How long does a perfume last?

Perfume longevity refers to the length of time a fragrance remains perceptible on the skin or in the air after it has been applied. Perfume longevity depends on several factors, such as the concentration of perfume oils in the fragrance, individual skin chemistry, and the environment in which the perfume is worn.

There are generally four different types of fragrance concentrations:

  1. Eau de Cologne: This has the lowest concentration of perfume oils and generally lasts 2 to 3 hours.

  2. Eau de Toilette: This has a slightly higher concentration of perfume oils and can last up to 4-6 hours.

  3. Eau de Parfum: This has a higher concentration of perfume oils and can last up to 8-10 hours.

  4. Perfume or Parfum: This has the highest concentration of perfume oils and can last up to 24 hours or even longer.

However, it's important to keep in mind that these are just general guidelines and the actual longevity of a fragrance can vary depending on individual factors. For example, a fragrance may last longer on someone with dry skin than on someone with oily skin. Additionally, certain scents may be longer lasting than others due to the chemical makeup of perfume oils.

To maximize the life of a perfume, it is recommended to apply it to pulse points such as the wrists, neck, and behind the ears. It is also important to store perfumes in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat, as exposure to these elements can degrade perfume oils and shorten the life of the perfume.

What are olfactory families?

Olfactory families are categories used in perfumery to classify and describe the different notes and aromas used in the creation of a fragrance. Below we present the main olfactory families in perfumes:

  1. Floral: As the name suggests, this fragrance family is made up of floral notes, such as jasmine, rose, lily and lavender. Floral perfumes are usually soft, feminine and romantic.

  2. Oriental: Also known as "amber," this scent family is warm, sensual, and spicy. Top notes include vanilla, amber, incense, cinnamon, and myrrh. Oriental perfumes are popular in winter and evening fragrances.

  3. Citrus: This olfactory family is made up of citrus notes, such as lemon, orange, bergamot and grapefruit. Citrus perfumes are fresh, energizing and perfect for summer.

  4. Woody: Woody perfumes are typically warm, earthy, and masculine. Top notes include cedar, sandalwood, patchouli, and vetiver.

  5. Fougère: This olfactory family is composed of herbal notes, lavender, moss and woods. Fougère perfumes are traditionally masculine and fresh.

  6. Fruity: Fruity perfumes are characterized by notes of fresh and juicy fruits such as apple, peach, strawberry and pineapple. Fruity perfumes are often sweet and youthful.

  7. Gourmand: This olfactory family is made up of sweet food notes, such as vanilla, chocolate, caramel and coffee. Gourmand perfumes are often warm, sweet and comforting.

  8. Aquatic: Aquatic perfumes are inspired by the scents of the sea and aquatic notes, such as sea salt, seaweed and water. Aquatic perfumes are fresh, clean and are often associated with men's fragrances.

These are just a few of the common scent families in perfumes, but there are many more. Each fragrance is unique and can contain several notes from different scent families to create a unique fragrance experience.

What is a niche perfume?

A niche perfume is a high-quality and exclusive fragrance that is designed for a select and specialized audience in the world of perfumery. These perfumes are characterized by their creativity, attention to detail and focus on quality and craftsmanship.

Unlike designer fragrances, which are typically available in large chain stores, niche perfumes are produced in limited quantities and sold in specialty stores, boutiques, and online through websites dedicated to niche perfumery.

Niche perfumes are typically composed of high-quality ingredients, including natural essential oils, and may be designed by independent perfumers or small perfume houses that focus on creating unique and distinctive fragrances.

Niche perfumes often focus on exploring new notes and ingredient combinations, which can result in more unusual and experimental scents compared to fragrances from major perfume brands.

Niche perfumes can also be more expensive than designer fragrances, due to their high quality and limited production quantities. However, for perfume lovers, niche perfumes offer a unique opportunity to experiment with exclusive and distinctive fragrances that are not found on the shelves of mainstream stores.

How should I store my perfume?

Perfumes are delicate products that require proper storage to maintain their quality and fragrance. Below are some tips for storing your perfumes correctly and avoiding the effects of heat and humidity on their packaging:

  1. Store your perfumes in a cool, dry place: Prolonged exposure to heat and humidity can alter the quality and aroma of your perfumes, so it is important to store them in a cool, dry place. Avoid storing your perfumes in places where there are sudden changes in temperature or in areas where there is a lot of humidity, such as the bathroom or kitchen.

  2. Keep your perfumes away from direct sunlight: Direct sunlight can damage the ingredients in your perfumes and reduce their quality. Therefore, it is advisable to store them in dark, closed places, such as a closet or drawer.

  3. Store them in their original packaging: Perfume bottles are designed to protect the ingredients and scent of perfumes. Therefore, it is advisable to keep them in their original packaging to avoid unnecessary exposure to air and moisture.

  4. Avoid storing your perfumes for a long time: Perfumes don't last forever, so it's important not to store them for long periods without use. Most perfumes have a shelf life of 2-3 years, after which they can start to lose their quality and scent.

  5. Pay attention to humidity in the packaging: If your perfume containers are exposed to humidity, either through condensation or direct contact with water, it can affect the quality and aroma of your perfumes. Therefore, it is important to keep the containers dry and clean.

Remember that proper storage of your perfumes is essential to maintain their quality and fragrance. Follow these tips and enjoy your favorite perfumes for longer.
